Project Overview
At the Donohoe Residence in West Vancouver, we had the privilege of transforming an outdated basement into a modern, functional living space. With Synthesis Design Inc. leading the design, our team was dedicated to creating a basement that not only met but exceeded the homeowner's expectations.
Our Process
The renovation involved a comprehensive approach, meticulously planned and executed to ensure every detail was considered:
- Complete Basement Demolition: We started with a full gut of the existing basement to make way for the new design.
- Structural and Plumbing Work: This included excavating for new drainage, forming and placing new concrete, and installing all new plumbing.
- Electrical Upgrades: We facilitated a new 200amp service from BC Hydro, keeping the space up to current standards.
- HVAC Reconfiguration: Adjusting the existing systems to suit the new basement layout.
- New Windows and Exterior Doors: Enhancing both the functionality and aesthetics of the space.
- Soundproofing: Implementing Rockwool Safe and Sound along with Resilient Channel between the suite and main house for added privacy and comfort.
- Modern Refinishing: Complete with a new bathroom featuring a curbless shower, a new kitchen, and contemporary finishes throughout.
- Permit Closure: All work was approved and closed out with the District of West Vancouver, ensuring compliance with all regulations.
Overcoming Challenges
One of the unique aspects of this project was that the homeowners lived in the house throughout the renovation. Our team took great care to:
- Maintain Essential Services: We ensured that water, drainage, heat, and power were continuously available.
- Minimize Disruption: By setting up dust barriers and using air scrubbers, we kept the living areas as clean and comfortable as possible.
Result
The completed basement now serves as a testament to our commitment to detail, functionality, and homeowner satisfaction. It was an honor to work on this project, and we are pleased to have delivered a space that the homeowners can enjoy for years to come.
